Just wanted to say hi. I am new at this and I am very interested in joining the club. Can anyone give me some feedback on what actually goes on at meetings and hunts. I just received my 1st metal detector in November. It is a White's M-6 and I am so excited I can hardly wait. Doing some research on where I would like to go so I can practice-practice-and more practice. I am used to looking for treasures at thrift stores and garage sales; so, this is a whole new game for me. I am so looking forward for summer. Jules __________________ Julie Wohlwend

Hi Jules... and Welcome! We meet once a month, the 3rd Tues of each month...no meetings in Dec or Jan. We have a Bring~and~Brag table where members show what they've found for the current month. You will be amazed at the variety of cool and valuable items that we get to see each and every month. We vote on several categorys: Best coin, Most coins, Best gold jewelry, Best jewelry, etc... it's not so much winning but it's just amazing to see what treasures are coming out of the ground and lakes!
We sometimes have speakers at the meetings... but even if we don't have a speaker it's still a great meeting. Members & guests talk about types of machines, correct target recovery, and you can give or take hints and ideas. Lots of people hook up and go detecting together... sometimes just to hunt together, maybe carpool etc... and sometimes to help a newbie with how to learn the machine...
We also have an annual club hunt in July, which has planted targets. This is fun because you can find lots of old coins, silver coins, and also there are LOTS of token prizes. It's also a time to relax, have a pot luck, maybe campfires, cards, etc... and we also have a few mini-hunts during the year. Pretty much the same thing only much smaller.
I also (like you) love looking for treasure at sales and thrift shops... and I've found a LOT of things. And you are right, this is just another avenue for a true treasure hunter.... Try to make it to a meeting some time, we'd love to meet you. ~Patti

I know a slider/gut bomb when I see one...haha Your photo is blurry, maybe just on my PC... but I still thought that's what they were. I always loved the "Black Shack"... and still do but I only eat 2 now when I go there, and it's not nearly as often as it was many years ago. C'ya ~Patti |
