I've been wanting to try out metal detecting for a long time and I recently took the plunge and bought a detector down at Metal Detectors of Minneapolis. I've been reading up on the code of ethics, the laws, plug cutting techniques, and researching places to go.

Coin hunting is what I really want to get into, build a collection and have some fun.
GSTH stood out as the club to get involved with even before buying and I look forward to meeting everyone!

Thank you! I just had my first Tuesday class for the semester and found out that we have tests every week so I am forced to hold off on making meetings until I can get a handle on things.
I can't wait to come down when my schedule permits, more to follow.

I'm glad I'm not the only one in this situation.
St. Paul College for the networking program. I was at Metro but the Computer Science department there isn't what I was looking for.

Welcome Spoons!

How do you like the SPC Networking course? I visited there when I was choosing a school and ended up going to Brown. Brown is expensive, but the course was stellar. I just wasnt impressed by the campus and the equipment at SPC.

I ended up graduating Brown with a Bachelors degree in Information Technology and an Associates Degree in Network Design.

I am going to try very hard to attend the next meeting. Having 3 kids under 8 and living in Hastings makes it tough to make the journey.

I hear you on the family stuff vex.
St. Paul College is a Cisco Academy so the curriculum is pretty intense heading into the major specific courses. Overall it has been a good experience.
Tuition in Minnesota seems to be high compared to most states.

Hey Spoons... Welcome! And thanks for all the nice comments. We are a great club with a great group of people... all ages!
So what kind of detector did you get?  Tom at Metal Detectors of Mpls is a good guy and he can really get you excited about the hobby.  If you can make it to a club meeting you'll be able to meet others with your same machine so you can ask them questions if you need any help.  Lots of members hook up with each other when the weather is decent and that's also a great way to learn your machine. And at the meetings you can also see what others are finding... it is quite amazing!
I hope you can make it to a meeting sometime this winter...
we love newiies stopping by! ~Patti

Thank you Patti!  And that is what my semester has been like, went by in a blink. (only at midterm now) I actually had tonight off but I had to spend the evening at my daughter's dance studio...
I bought a White's Coinmaster as a starter machine, eventually I will give it to my son. I actually went down today to buy a Lesche and bended Tom's ear for awhile about upgrades.
I'm going to pop if I don't get out to metal detect and make some meetings!
